Wrap a sofa, a lap, or a chilly evening in one of Scotland’s most vivid clan tartans.

This is Buchanan Modern as it should look: a golden-yellow sett crossing blocks of forest green and scarlet, with navy and charcoal running through the check. The cloth is a dense blended-wool tweed — substantial enough to hold warmth, soft enough to live on a sofa rather than stay in a cupboard. Both ends are finished with a traditional twisted fringe in the tartan’s own colours, about 7 cm (a full 3 inches).

Use it as a throw over a chair arm, a picnic rug that won’t feel flimsy, or a splash of Highland colour at the end of a bed. The pattern is bold without being costume-y; the scale (157 cm wide, 189 cm long including fringes) is generous for one person and comfortable for two.
